Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): The double bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court’s Indore bench has given a big decision regarding Ujjain Janpad Panchayat elections conducted in 2022. The court has given instructions to re-conduct the elections of Janpad Panchayat president.
Now the collector will conduct the election process again. Despite having a majority in the president election, BJP had to face defeat. The court has stayed the election for the post of Janpad Panchayat president held on July 28, 2022.
Despite number of Congress supporters decreasing in Ujjain Janpad Panchayat, Vindhya Devendra Singh Panwar of Piploda Dwarkadhish supported by Congress was elected president and Nasir Patel of Datana was elected vice-president. Even after BJP had 13 out of 25 voters in the Janpad Panchayat, BJP members were not able to vote.
After which the administration declared Congress candidates victorious. Against this, the then higher education minister Mohan Yadav sat on a dharna with BJP-supported Janpad members and workers. He accused the administration of killing democracy.
Anant Yadav, who filed a petition in the High Court said that in the 2022 Janpad Panchayat elections, Congress won the election results due to administrative collusion. 25 members had to elect a president. But, only 12 members voted. Against this, we had applied to cancel the election. From there we got a stay. After this, an appeal was made in the double bench of the High Court.
The court on Thursday gave the verdict and decided to conduct fresh elections again.
Meanwhile, Congress MLA Mahesh Parmar said that if we are wrong then the then Collector-ADM and other officers are also guilty. They should also be punished. We had won the elections democratically. CM Mohan Yadav has murdered democracy to save his credibility, he said.
