Tata Consumer Products and PepsiCo India have entered into a collaboration to manufacture and sell packaged snacks in India. The partnership will bring together PepsiCos Kurkure brand and Tata Consumers Ching’s Secret brand reported Economic Times. While not a joint venture this collaboration is expected to make waves in the growing packaged snacks market. Depending on the market response the partnership may extend to other product categories in the future.
Tata Consumer And PepsiCo Collaboration
Under the new partnership the two companies will focus initially on packaged snacks. This collaboration leverages PepsiCos established presence in the snacks segment and Tatas expertise in food products. If the market responds positively the collaboration could expand to include additional offerings from both brands.
PepsiCo’s Dominance In Segment
PepsiCo India has a strong foothold in the packaged snacks category with popular brands like Kurkure Lay’s Chips and Doritos Nachos. On the other hand Tata Consumer Products recently acquired Capital Foods for Rs 5100 crore gaining ownership of brands like Ching’s Secret and Smith & Jones.
Growing Packaged Snacks Market
India’s packaged snacks market is witnessing rapid growth. According to a report by The Economic Times the market is projected to reach Rs 95521.8 crore by 2032. The rise of local and direct-to-consumer brands has intensified competition in the sector. Experts believe the Tata-PepsiCo partnership will further increase the competition in this booming market.
PepsiCo Eyes Stake In Haldiram’s
In addition to this collaboration PepsiCo is reportedly in talks to acquire a minority stake in Haldiram’s India’s leading snacks and food company. Haldiram’s recorded a revenue of Rs 12800 crore in FY24 and offers over 500 products including snacks namkeens sweets ready-to-eat items and pre-mixed foods.
Tata and PepsiCo Old JV
This isn’t the first time Tata and PepsiCo have joined hands. In 2010 the two companies partnered to create the NourishCo beverage brand through a 50:50 joint venture. However in 2020 Tata acquired PepsiCo’s entire stake in NourishCo making it a wholly-owned brand under Tata Consumer Products. At that time Tata had said it is terminating the eight-year old JV and make the firm a wholly-owned subsidiary as well as transfer rights over the ready to drink brand Gluco Plus from PepsiCo.
The collaboration is expected to tap into the rapidly growing demand while intensifying competition in the segment. The potential expansion of this partnership could further redefine the dynamics of the Indian snacks industry.
