Over 2.27 million pilgrims attended the Mela on Monday morning as of 8 am, as the Mahakumbh begins its eighth day, according to official statistics made public by the Uttar Pradesh government.

One million Kalpvasis and 1.27 million pilgrims took the sacred plunge by 8 am on the eighth day of the Mahakumbh, when more than 2.27 million devotees congregated at Sangam Triveni.

During Mahakumbh 2025, around 82.6 million pilgrims swam at the Sangam Triveni as of January 19.

Despite the bad weather in the city, devotees flocked to Triveni Sangam on Monday. However, pilgrims’ numbers seem to be unaffected by the weather.
On the eighth day of the great event, a significant number of devotees congregated to the holy site in Prayagraj despite the cold weather.

Since there are still four important Shahi Snans to come, it is anticipated that pilgrim attendance would rise in the next days.
January 29 (Mauni Amavasya), February 3 (Basant Panchami), February 12 (Maghi Purnima), and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri) are the following important bathing days.
The celebrations continued on Sunday, the seventh day of the Mahakumbh Mela, with over five million pilgrims attending till six o’clock in the afternoon.

Unexpectedly, three cooking gas cylinders exploded on Sunday, causing a fire to start at the Gita Press tent at the Mela. But there were no recorded casualties.

After the event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi talked with the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh to ask how things were going.
According to Uttar Pradesh Minister AK Sharma, there were around 100 persons at the Gita Press camp’s shivir area.
“Almost 100 people were there in the shivir but with the blessings of Maa Ganga, there has been no causality,” added the minister.

Vivek Chaturvedi, the Mahakumbh Mela’s Additional District Magistrate (ADM), stated that a fire that started in the Gita Press camp earlier on Monday destroyed between 70 to 80 huts and 8 to 10 tents.

January 13 marked the start of the Mahakumbh, which will last until February 26.
