Imaikkaa Nodigal is a 2018 Indian Tamil language action thriller directed by R. Ajay Gnanamuthu. The film stars Nayanthara as CBI officer Anjali Vikramadithyan who is on a mission to apprehend a serial killer claiming to be Rudra- a notorious murderer believed to have killed years ago. The plot intensifies as the killer targets Anjali and her family leading to a suspenseful cat-and-mouse game. The ensemble cast includes Atharvaa as Arjun Anjalis brother; Raashii Khanna as Krithika Rao Arjuns love interest; and Anurag Kashyap as the antagonist ex-ACP Martin Roy. Vijay Sethupathi makes an extended cameo appearance as Vikramadithyan Anjalis late husband. The film delves into the themes of revenge and justice with Anjalis pursuit of the killer intertwining with personal grudges and family issues. The story is full of surprising twists and turns keeping the audience engaged throughout. Produced by Cameo films Imaikaa Nodigal is made on a moderate budget and has music by Hiphop Tamizha. One of the major highlights of the suspense thriller is the character played by Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap. He is seen as a Tamil-spouting psychopath who is hunted down by Nayanthara’s investigating officer.   Director Gnanamuthu originally planned the film with a male protagonist. Back in 2014 I had even approached Mammootty sir for the film and he was okay with it he said. Later on we kept changing the characters a lot. I thought it would be nice if it had a female protagonist. Once we finished the entire character sketch we felt that no one but Nayanthara ma’am could do justice to the role. I wanted to make the film very genuinely and the emotions worked better with a female protagonist. Gnanamuthu added. Upon its release on August 30 2018 Imaikkaa Nodigal received positive reviews for its gripping storyline and performances particularly Nayantharas portrayal of Anjali. Made in Rs 15 crore the film earned Rs 21.8 crore becoming both commercial and critical success.
