have already been told about the qualities of transfer target Patrick Dorgu as they close in on signing the young star. Ruben Amorim is looking to make the 20-year-old his first squad addition since taking over, with the club having reportedly opened talks with Lecce over a switch.
Dorgu has already made 47 senior appearances for the Serie A club, and is adept at both left-back and in a more advanced wing-back role.
That seemingly makes him an ideal candidate to slot into Amorim's renowned 3-4-3 formation, with United having used makeshift options on that side of their defence this season amid the injury problems of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
Dorgu has already caught the eye at the international level as well as with his club. Despite also being eligible to represent Nigeria, he's won four caps for Denmark and scored just 42 seconds after coming on for his debut against Switzerland in September.
Ahead of that match, a glowing endorsement of his qualities was provided by Danish team-mate Joachim Andersen. The Fulham player cited Dorgu's prowess going forward as a major asset to the national side.
"Dorgu is an offensive back with lots of power and speed," he said. "He is left-footed, which helps us a lot. We also have VK (Victor Kristiansen), who is left-footed, but Dorgu is a bit more offensive."
Speaking further about Dorgu and fellow debutant Morten Frendrup, he added: "I see they have a lot of energy. They have a lot of audacity, and they are slightly different types of players than we have seen in the national team in the last several years."
Dorgu's form has also seen him . According to the Athletic, the Italian club are looking to demand a fee in the region of £34m if he's to move to Old Trafford.
If Dorgu does sign, it appears Tyrell Malacia will be the man to make way for him. Amorim is said to have sanctioned the departure of the 25-year-old defender, who only returned to action in November after an 18-month injury layoff.
The Dutch international has made five appearances since, but seemingly hasn't impressed his manager. And Amorim is expected to target a host of players following .
After the 3-1 loss, Amorim brutally described his side as the worst in the history of the club. The club have won just three of 11 league games since he took over in December.
