The Charkha roundabout near Amity University, the Gardens Galleria Mall to Film City, and the bird feeding place near Dalit Prerna Sthal are the three main areas where Noida traffic police will soon use lane driving in order to reduce frequent snarls. Violations will result in a fine of Rs 1,500.
Abrupt lane changes during rush hour cause a self-reinforcing chain reaction wherein one car slows a little, and the vehicles behind it brake significantly more to avoid hitting it. The braking eventually becomes more severe until the traffic either stops entirely or slows to a crawl. Police claim that this also results in sideswipe and rear-end incidents.
The three selected roads see high levels of traffic throughout the day and are especially susceptible to bottlenecks during rush hour, according to DCP (traffic), Lakhan Singh Yadav.
“Commuters will be able to change lanes at lane-changing zones that the Noida Authority will construct over 500 meters ahead of these locations. Additionally, cameras will be set up to keep an eye on infractions and issue challans,” he said.
Currently, these violations are not detectable by ITMS cameras on the roadway. Authorities said that the cameras are now being updated.
At the Charkha roundabout on the Noida Expressway, traffic from residential sectors 125, 126, and 128, as well as from Amity University to Kalindi Kunj, Sarita Vihar, and Jamia Nagar, converge, causing traffic congestion.
A bit farther on, the bird feeding spot next to Dalit Prerna Sthal manages traffic from the road heading towards the Chilla Border, the Film City flyover, and well-known landmarks like Sector 18 and DLF Mall. Traffic flow is hampered by drivers’ frequent last-minute lane changes. Commuters may reach the Noida Expressway, Greater Noida, Chilla Border, and DND Flyway from Botanical Garden, GIP Mall, and Sector 18 on the way from Gardens Galleria to Film City.
