Every year on January 30, India commemorates Martyrs’ Day to commemorate the anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s passing and to honor his contributions to the nation’s liberation as well as those of the other freedom fighters who have lost their lives in the battle.

At 11 a.m. on January 30, the state administration ordered all department heads, divisional commissioners, and collectors in the state to observe a two-minute silence.

“Every year on January 30 at 11:00 am, two minutes of silence are observed nationwide in remembrance of the martyrs who have sacrificed their lives for the nation’s freedom,” said the state government’s January 20 edict. Work and other activities should be halted, and two minutes of silence should be held to commemorate the day.

Furthermore, despite the fact that certain workplaces observe two minutes of silence, it has been noted in recent years that the general public continues with their daily tasks without acknowledging the gravity of the event. Accordingly, the ruling asked that Shaheed Diwas be honored with appropriate gravity.

“All public projects and educational institutions under your (commissioners and collectors) jurisdiction should get instructions to observe Shaheed Diwas with the highest seriousness. It went on to say, “Hybrid mode should be used to organize talks and speeches on national unity and the fight for freedom.”

Months after India gained its freedom, on January 30, 1948, Nathuram Godse killed Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Smriti at Birla’s home.
