Train and flight services disrupted in Delhi due to fog

New Delhi: On Wednesday, foggy conditions caused delays in Delhi’s rail and aviation services.

Fog caused a number of planes at Indira Gandhi International Airport to be delayed. Additionally, nine trains that were traveling to Delhi from different stations were running late.

Brahmaputra Mail (15658), Poorva Express (12303), Purushottam Express (12801), and GCT ANVT SF EXP (22433) are among the trains that are running late.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that areas of the Northeast and portions of West Bengal, Bihar, and North Uttar Pradesh were experiencing fog conditions.

At 5:30 a.m. today, Delhi recorded a temperature of 10.4 degrees Celsius.

On Wednesday morning, however, the national capital’s air quality fell into the “poor” category. The Central Pollution Control Board reports that at 8 a.m. today, the Air Quality Index was recorded at 262.

A score of zero to fifty is regarded as “good,” 51 to 100 as “satisfactory,” 101 to 200 as “moderate,” 201 to 300 as “poor,” 301 to 400 as “very poor,” and 401 to 500 as “severe.”

In Delhi, homeless individuals were seeking refuge in night shelters to avoid the cold. To help the homeless, the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) erected 235 pagoda tents. In several locations, night shelters have been established.

Fog affected other parts of North India this morning as well.

This morning, a thick layer of fog was seen enveloping Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. The IMD predicts that Ayodhya will have a low temperature of 11°C today.

In the meanwhile, millions of people flocked to the Sangam ghats in the chilly weather to bathe in the Triveni Sangam, a revered meeting place of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers.

The Maha Kumbh, which lasts for forty-five days, began today. To date, about 8.81 crore devotees have visited Triveni Sangam to take a sacred bath.

The Kashmir Valley was still experiencing a chilly wave. At 5:30 this morning, Srinagar reported a temperature of 2.6 degrees Celsius.

Rainfall is possible across Punjab, Haryana, Western Uttar Pradesh, Delhi NCR, and North Rajasthan on January 22 and 23, according to the IMD.
