Sunil Mittal led Airtel is poised to roll out its satellite internet services potentially outpacing Elon Musks Starlink which has been eager to enter the Indian market. Airtel has completed the construction of two key base stations in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu and is now awaiting spectrum allocation and final approval from the central government to begin operations.
Airtel’s Satellite Internet
Rajan Bharti Mittal Vice Chairman of Bharti Enterprises revealed in a recent interview with ANI that Airtels satellite telecom service is ready for deployment. As soon as we get the necessary permissions we are prepared to launch he said.
With 635 satellites already in orbit Airtel is not new to the satellite internet game as it is operational in multiple international markets. The company has also promised affordable pricing particularly for remote areas which could make its service accessible to a broader audience and give it a competitive advantage over Starlink.
Challenge For Starlink By Airtel
Starlink still awaiting government approval to launch in India faces potential hurdles. While the company has gained attention globally for its innovative satellite internet service its relatively high pricing may work against it in a price-sensitive market like India. Airtels focus on affordability could become a key differentiator.
Additional Developments In Indias Telecom Sector
In related news Airtel Jio and BSNL users in India can now make calls using any available network thanks to the newly launched Intra Circle Roaming (ICR) facility. Introduced on January 17 during an event promoting 4G mobile sites funded by the Digital Bharat Nidhi (DBN) this initiative allows users to access 4G services from a shared tower even if their primary SIM network is unavailable.
By enabling telecom providers to share government-funded towers the ICR initiative reduces the need for constructing additional infrastructure. This cooperative approach aims to enhance connectivity across India making it easier to set up and maintain robust networks while ensuring better service for users.
Airtel’s readiness to enter the satellite internet market coupled with its operational experience affordable pricing strategy and supportive initiatives like the ICR facility positions the company as a strong contender in Indias telecom landscape.
