Pushpa 2 Box Office Collection 48: Allu Arjun's film drops to Rs 50 lakh.
In its seventh week, Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna's Pushpa 2 is nearing the end of its theatrical run.
However, the makers attempted to give the film one last boost by releasing an extended version, Pushpa 2 Reloaded, on Friday, January 17. This move resulted in a weekend spike in collections, but by Monday, the film saw a steep 56 percent drop, earning just Rs 65 lakhs. The downward trend continued on Tuesday, with the film minting Rs 50 lakhs, according to Sacnilk. This brings the film's total domestic collection to Rs 1,229.40 crore.
The extended cut includes an additional 20 minutes of footage, increasing the runtime to 220 minutes, making Pushpa 2 one of the longest films in Indian cinema. On the global front, Sacnilk reports that the film's worldwide box office collection stood at Rs 1,735.40 crore gross as of Monday, the 47th day of its release. However, a post from Mythri Movie Makers on January 6 stated that the worldwide gross had reached Rs 1,831 crore.
Pushpa 2 quickly climbed the ranks to become the second-highest-grossing Indian film of all time, surpassing titans like Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, RRR, KGF: Chapter 2, and Jawan. Yet, it still trails behind Aamir Khan's Dangal, which holds the record with a mammoth Rs 2,080 crore worldwide collection. The Allu Arjun film has also faced competition from releases like Daaku Maharaaj, Game Changer, and Emergency. While none of these films, except Daaku Maharaaj, are performing exceptionally well, they have managed to cut into Pushpa 2's profits.
Meanwhile, the makers of Pushpa 2 continue to face challenges. After a tragic stampede during the film's premiere in a Hyderabad theater, resulting in the death of a woman, lead actor Allu Arjun was briefly arrested and later released on bail. Now, the production team faces fresh hurdles as the Income Tax Department recently conducted simultaneous raids on premises affiliated with Mythri Movie Makers and another production house, Sri Venkateswara Creations. Although the IT department has not disclosed the reason for the raids, industry insiders speculate that the public sharing of budget and box office figures by these companies may have triggered the investigation.
While the theatrical run of Pushpa 2 continues to wind down, the film is set to make its OTT debut soon. According to a report by Financial Express, the streaming rights have been sold for a substantial price. Although no official OTT release date has been announced, the producers had earlier indicated that the film would be available for streaming 56 days after its theatrical release.
