Emi Martinez responds after Aston Villa star's very public Premier League snub

goalkeeper has hit back at the after they left him out of their announcement for players who had been named in EA Sports' Team of the Year.

The English top flight sent out a tweet on Wednesday revealing that Arsenal's William Saliba, Manchester City's Rodri, star Cole Palmer and duo Virgil van Dijk and had all been named in the line-up, congratulating all five of them.

But the Premier League forgot to include Martinez, who responded by simply replying to the post with a picture showing his award sent to him in a briefcase.

The Argentine's picture showed the briefcase lifted up, with the yellow and blue trophy seen in a polystyrene casing, a picture of the 32-year-old and his FIFA card rating of 94 above it.

In addition to the Premier League's post showing Saliba holding his award, they uploaded four more tweets where Rodri, Palmer, Van Dijk and Salah were seen posing with the prize, again leaving out Martinez.

Aston Villa fans began responding by posting pictures of Martinez holding his award, while another said: "Tell me you have a big six bias without actually telling me."

One added: "Disgraceful that you've missed out Emi Martinez. How you've not deleted this and put it right is baffling." Another said: "Someone tell them which keeper got in this year?"

Martinez had a superb season for Villa last year as he played 34 out of 38 possible games, keeping eight clean sheets and making a total of 95 saves as he helped Unai Emery's men qualify for the .

This season has not been as solid as last term, with Martinez keeping just three clean sheets and making 57 saves, with 32 high claims.

The former goalkeeper has made a total of 188 appearances for Villa since joining from Arsenal in 2020 and he has been the undisputed No 1 ever since.

He started his career at the Emirates but only ever played 38 times, and his move to Villa has seen him become one of the most highly-rated keepers in the , with Martinez clinching the World Cup with Argentina in 2022.
