John McEnroe has been given an open invitation by to watch his team Wrexham in action. The American tennis legend is currently busy working on commentary at the .

However, the Deadpool star thinks the 65-year-old would have been an ideal companion to join him for Thursday evening's big League One clash between Wrexham and Birmingham City at the Racecourse Ground. Reynolds explained his reasoning as he believes McEnroe's sweary outbursts would be a useful weapon for the Welsh side as they face their promotion rivals.

The Canadian actor made the suggestion after revealing his light-hearted exchanges with NFL icon Tom Brady, who holds a minority stake in , and former England star ahead of the reverse fixture at St Andrew's in September. The previous encounter saw a star-studded turnout, with Brady and Beckham watching as Birmingham triumphed over Reynolds' team 3-1.

Although Reynolds couldn't attend, he was actively messaging the duo from afar as they enjoyed the match from the directors' box and admitted to poking fun at their expense.

Speaking on the Men in Blazers podcast, the Hollywood star said: "I wasn't able to be at the Birmingham match, but he (Brady) was sitting with Beckham, and I was s*** texting both of them, mostly failing bone structure and age-related sort of material. It wasn't my finest moment, and I hate that they're both kind people in real life."

When asked which celebrity he'd like to accompany him to a Wrexham game, he added: "I don't know , but I want to see if he'll come because having a real black belt s*** talker would be nice."

McEnroe was well known for his controversial antics throughout his stellar career, which spanned the late-1970s through to the early-90s. However, it was during the 1990 Australian Open that he really overstepped the mark whilst playing against Swede Mikael Pernfors.

McEnroe was disqualified for a trio of offences, including intimidating the lineswoman, smashing his racket and launching a tirade of abuse at the umpire. He was also alleged to have told a supervisor to 'go f*** your mother'.

He previously opened up on the incident during an interview with the New York Times, saying: "I pushed it to the limit a lot, so I suppose that even though I don't feel like I should have been defaulted, say, in that particular match, I'm sure there were a few others where I probably deserved to be."

It's, therefore, clear why Reynolds would want to have McEnroe on his side in a verbal spat. While he might not be available to watch Wrexham take on Birmingham, it wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility for him to turn up at a future match.

A whole host of celebrities have shown up at the Racecourse Ground since Reynolds and "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" star Rob McElhenney took over the club in February 2020, including the likes of Will Ferrell, Hugh Jackman, Charlie Day and Eva Longoria.
