Tottenham won 3-2 at Hoffenheim in the Europa League on Thursday night and here are our Spurs player ratings.
Postecoglou had 14 players unavailable with Guglielmo Vicario, Micky van de Ven, Destiny Udogie, Yves Bissouma, Brennan Johnson, Wilson Odobert, Dominic Solanke, Timo Werner and Pape Matar Sarr out injured and Antonin Kinsky, Djed Spence, Sergio Reguilon and Yang Min-hyeok not registered to play in the competition. Cristian Romero is back in training but not ready yet.
Brandon Austin came in for Kinsky to make his second appearances for Tottenham, while Rodrigo Bentancur returned from concussion and Richarlison started up top.
The game was only three minutes old when Pedro Porro played a perfect ball over the top and James Maddison took a great touch to control it before running on and smashing home.
It took just under 20 minutes more for the second goal to come when Maddison broke upfield and got the ball to Son via a deflection and the captain ran on and hit a shot that struck a sliding defender and bounced up over the goalkeeper and into the net.
There was a strange moment after the break when a penalty was awarded to the hosts after an aerial collision between Austin and Max Moerstedt only for VAR to intervene just as the spot kick was about to be taken. The referee Morten Krogh went over to his pitchside monitor to see that the goalkeeper had got a hand to the ball in the action.
Hoffenheim did get one back soon after though with a break up the pitch that ended with Anton Stach getting into the box to touch a low cross home. Tottenham restored their advantage when Bentancur intercepted a pass, gave it to substitute Mikey Moore and the 17-year-old laid it off to Son, who struck a clinical shot into the bottom right corner of the net.
Hoffenheim got another goal back when David Mokwa was left unmarked to head in a deep cross at the back post. Tottenham, with five teenagers on the pitch in the closing stages, held on to claim all three points.
Here are our Spurs player ratings from the game:
Brandon Austin
Made a really good low save from Bischof in the first half. Unfortunate to be given a penalty against him and VAR agreed. Couldn't do much about Hoffenheim's first goal but was caught in two minds for their second somewhat. 7
Pedro Porro
Great assist for Maddison's goal but Mokwa was unmarked behind him to score the hosts' second goal. 6
Radu Dragusin
A battling display from the Romanian with four stitches above his eye although he was drawn in for the second goal. 6
Ben Davies
Plenty of important interceptions from the experienced Welshman on only his second game in more than six weeks. 7
Archie Gray
Was on left-back duty and gave everything. Fell to the floor at the final whistle absolutely spent. 7
Lucas Bergvall
Had a close range header saved near the end of the first half. Another busy performance although he clearly tired in the second half and also fell to the floor at the whistle. 7
Rodrigo Bentancur
Back from his concussion and he worked hard in a full 90 minute performance that he needed in his legs. Started the move for both goals. 8
James Maddison
Brilliantly took down Porro's ball over the top before scoring and then sent Son away for the second goal. A really good performance from the midfielder. 8
Dejan Kulusevski
Set up Richarlison for a first half chance. Fought away down the right hand side but clearly looks in need of a rest. 6
Richarlison
His second start of the season and the Brazilian tested the keeper with an early effort. Got 55 minutes into his legs and looked tired after trying to press and close down for much of it. 6
Son Heung-min
Worked hard with a great tracking run across from the other side of the pitch in the first half and got his rewards not long after with a shot that bounced off a defender's boot into the ground and over the keeper. His second goal was a clinical effort into the bottom right corner of the net. A double when Spurs needed it. 8
Subs
Mikey Moore
Grabbed his second assist in as many games with his ball to Son for Spurs' third goal. Another positive cameo. 6
Will Lankshear
Replaced Son for the final stages of the game. N/A
Callum Olusesi
A Spurs debut for the 17-year-old midfielder and he was neat and tidy in what he did. N/A
