IMPTTA National Masters TT: Prakash Kelkar Sets New Record

Evergreen Prakash Kelkar created a new record of winning all four titles at the IMPTTA Masters National Table Tennis championship, being played at the Andheri Sports Complex , Mumbai. Playing in the Men’s 64+ category, Prakash who led the IMPTTA-Maharashtra ‘A’ team won the first Gold along with Anil Rasam, Naresh Shah and Mahesh Shetye, in Team Championship event. They beat Telangana team comprising of N.Taher & SVVR Rao in the finals of team championship. This was followed by his triple crowns in Men’s Singles, Men”s doubles( Partnering Anil Rasam) and Mixed doubles, partnering Suhasini Bakre.

The IMPTTA-Maharashtra 69+ ‘A’ team led by Ulhas Shirke along with his team members Yogesh Desai, Deepak Dudhane, Antonio Gomes won Gold medal and a huge trophy beating their ‘B’ team led by Percy Mehta 3-0 in the finals. Ulhas Shirke beat Shivand Kundaje 3-1, Yogesh Desai beat Percy Mehta 3-2 and Ulhas and Yogesh beating Percy and Shivanand in doubles. Earlier in the semi finals of team event, Deepak Dudhane played an important role, winning his both singles against Uttar Pradesh team comprising of Ma.Gen.Masaldan and Dr. Agarwal.   

In the Men’s 69+ Singles category former World Masters’ TT Champion Yogesh Desai won the Singles final beating Percy Mehta 3-2 in the finals. He also bagged a Silver in Men’s doubles( Partnering Ulhas Shirke) and played an important role in winning Gold for the Men’s 69+ Team. In the Women’s 69+ Singles Anjali Kanetkar brought Gold medal for Maharashtra , after beating Geeta Rahariya of Rajasthan ,in the finals.

Mangal Saraf won the IMPTTA National Masters’ Women’s title in 64+ event beating Suhasini Bakre 3-2 in a thrilling final match , while A.M. Warunkar won the Men’s 74 Singles title bating Mukund Dev Agarwal from Rajasthan from Rajasthan , in the finals. The Men’s 79+ Singles title was won by Indresh Purohit from Gujarat , who beat A.S. Shaikh in the final.

The 39+, 49+ and 59+ Men’s and Women’s event will be played from 23rd to 25th January and many top players, who have won medals at the National and international championship will be seen in action at the Andheri Sports Complex.
