IND vs ENG 2025: Sanju Samson needs 92 runs to surpass head coach Gautam Gambhir on THIS list

New Delhi: Sanju Samson is just 92 runs away from surpassing head coach Gautam Gambhir in a significant batting milestone. As a regular member of the playing XI under Gambhir Samson has consistently performed well in the opportunities hes been given.
India will look to take an unassailable 3-0 lead when they host England in the third T20I of the five-match series on Tuesday February 28 in Rajkot at 7:00 PM IST. All eyes will be on Sanju Samson who started the series with a quick knock but struggled in the second T20I in Chennai.
The India opener could only manage 5 runs off 7 balls before getting out with Abhishek Sharma departing earlier. Their wickets left India struggling at 19/2 in pursuit of the 166-run target. Samson will be keen to make a strong comeback in the third T20I. With 841 runs in 39 T20Is he is closing in on head coach Gautam Gambhir’s tally of 932 T20I runs and a big knock could see him surpass Gambhir in the list of most runs in the shortest format.
Samson is just 92 runs away from surpassing Gautam Gambhir and could potentially overtake his head coach in the third T20I. Samson made his India debut in 2015 and has steadily built his T20I career since then.
After staying out of the national team for four years Samson returned in 2019 and has since been in and out of the squad. However he was part of the 2024 T20 World Cup-winning team and has now firmly cemented his spot in the final XI especially in the absence of regular players. In 2024 he scored three centuries further solidifying his reputation.
Samsons Performance in the England Series
Sanju Samson started the England T20I series with a solid 26-run knock off 20 balls forming a 41-run partnership with Abhishek Sharma for the first wicket in the chase of 133. While Abhishek continued with a strong 79-run performance helping India to victory Samsons form dipped in the second T20I. He was dismissed for just 5 runs off 7 balls. However thanks to Tilak Varma’s unbeaten 72 off 55 balls India managed to win the second T20I in a thrilling final over.
