Jordan Henderson will require to tear up his contract if he is to join before Monday's transfer deadline.

The former midfielder, 34, after a brief stint in Saudi Arabia with . He signed a deal which runs until 2026 with the Dutch giants in order to return to Europe and has since been made club captain.

It seems, though, that Henderson . Monaco are keen on the idea of bringing him to France but such a move will require Ajax to make concessions.

It's noted that , who is keen on making the move to Monaco, is negotiating with Ajax to try and secure an early release. But Monaco have already made it clear they will move on to other targets if they cannot sign Henderson on a free transfer.

While Ajax are open to letting Henderson go in the summer, they are currently in contention for the Dutch title and it remains to be seen if they would sanction his departure midway through the season.

Monaco, meanwhile, are third in Ligue 1 and in the play-offs, where they will face either Paris Saint-Germain or Benfica for a spot in the Round of 16.

Would Monaco be a good move for Henderson?

Henderson was rescued from a nightmare spell in Saudi Arabia by Ajax just 12 months ago. It was a difficult 2023-24 campaign for the Dutch giants, who ended the season fifth in the league after being buoyed by Henderson's leadership qualities.

Henderson has grown into a pivotal figure both on and off the pitch during his brief time in the Dutch capital. And if Ajax technical director Alex Kroes' words back in November are anything to go by, the club could dig their heels in and attempt to persuade Henderson to at least see the season out in Amsterdam.

“I am extremely happy with Jordan as captain, both on and off the field. We do not want to lose him,” Kroes said when asked about the midfielder's long-term future.

“We assume that he will help us to continue the further development that we are currently going through as a club and team.”
