Mumbai: A Bangladeshi woman named Shabikun Nahar Ruchi was arrested at Mumbai International Airport while attempting to board a flight to Dhaka. Immigration officials sent her to Sahar Police for further inquiry.
During the investigation, it was found that she had renewed her Indian passport three times after obtaining it under false pretences in 2006, using two different identities. She had used the same document to travel to various countries, including Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, Versova Police have arrested two Bangladeshi nationals who had entered India illegally and were living in Mumbai. Some fake documents were also recovered from them.
According to the FIR, on January 28, at 8:45 a.m., a woman arrived at Mumbai International Airport, an immigration counter for document verification. The immigration officer found visa stamps on her passport twice—once on page 7 and again on page 11. She had visited Bangladesh twice in the past. When the officer asked about the purpose of her visits to Bangladesh, she failed to provide a satisfactory answer. The officer grew suspicious, and his superior initiated a thorough inquiry.
During the investigation, she admitted that she was a Bangladeshi national and that her real name was Sabikun Nahar Ruchi. A few years ago she arrived in India with her parents and lived in West Bengal. Later, she and her parents moved to Malegaon and Nashik, where they lived for a few years. In 2006, she got married and settled in Powai. That same year, she obtained a fake passport under the name Sabeekun Nahar from the Bhubaneswar Passport Office. Using this passport, she travelled to Saudi Arabia for work.
In 2021, she renewed her passport under another name, Sabeena Humayun Kabeer Khandekar. The investigation revealed that she had obtained three passports under different names. She had also travelled to Bangladesh twice.
Nilesh Deshmukh, Police Sub-Inspector of Crime Branch-2, filed a complaint against her. Subsequently, Sahar Police arrested her and registered a case under the Passport Act, the Foreigners Act, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
In another operation, Versova Police arrested a Bangladeshi father and son from the Versova-Yari Road area in Andheri on January 29. The father and son, identified as Moner Bukhtiyar Sheikh, 35, and Bukhtiyar Dosur Sheikh, 70, had been living in India for the last eight years.
While patrolling, Versova Police received information about some Bangladeshi nationals residing in the area. Acting on this tip-off, police sub-inspector Ugle, along with his team detained the father and son from the Yari Road-Versova, Kavthekhadi area. During the investigation, it was revealed that both were Bangladeshi nationals.
Moner and his son were living in the area and working as labourers. Moner had come to India from Bangladesh eight years ago and later brought his father. His wife, young son, and daughter still live in Bangladesh. Mobile phone call records revealed that they were in regular contact with their family. Driven by poverty and hunger in Bangladesh, both had come to India in search of work.
