Netflix has just dropped a tantalising teaser for the third instalment of the Knives Out franchise, set to premiere later this year. The streaming service is billing it as detective Benoit Blanc's 'most dangerous case yet'.
The upcoming flick, titled Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, is slated for an Autumn release, with Daniel Craig reprising his role as the charming sleuth Benoit. Joining him is an A-list cast including Josh O'Connor (known for Challengers and The Crown), Cailee Spaeny (Alien: Romulus, Priscilla), Mila Kunis (Black Swan) and the legendary Glenn Close (Fatal Attraction, 101 Dalmations).
Jeremy Renner is also making a comeback to the franchise. Devotees will recall his stint as the mascot for a hot sauce brand in Glass Onion, but his character in Wake Up Dead Man is entirely unrelated.
A sneak peek photo released by captures O'Connor and Craig in a church, both sporting surprised expressions. Details about the plot and the roles of the illustrious ensemble remain under wraps, but the film's writer and director Rian Johnson has hinted that the title gives away a "little hint" about the narrative's direction.
Speaking to Digital Spy, Johnson divulged: "I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is. There's a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies."
He also confirmed that Renner would play a "proper part" in the film, with no hot sauce involved. "Jeremy's a great actor who I've wanted to work with for a long time," he said.
"I was very relieved he thought the hot sauce thing was funny! He's playing a proper part in this one, we'll keep the sauce off-screen. Maybe we'll sneak a few bottles onto the catering table."
Netflix's first-look prompted reactions from fans, with one saying: "Let's go. Love Daniel Craig in this role," while another commented: "I'm just here for Benoit Blanc's Southern charm and all the chaos in between." Another film enthusiast predicted: "This mystery is shaping up to be the best one yet."
The original Knives Out film hit the screens in 2019, followed by Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery in 2022, reports . Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery will be the third chapter in the series.
