After 12 long years, the great Brazilian football player Neymar Jr. returned to his childhood club, Santos FC, and was spotted sobbing after receiving a wild ovation from the supporters.
Santos announced on social media that “The Prince is Back” after being demoted to Brazil’s second division in 2023 and then elevated back in the most recent season.
Neymar is returning to the team where he began his career in the hopes of finding himself again. During his unveiling in the Estadio Urbano Caldeira, he became a little tearful.
Fernando Bonavides, the vice president of Santos, told Canal SporTV, “The contract is for six months initially, but obviously we will do all we can that he remains with us.” “What we are hoping is that he remains with us until next year’s World Cup.”
The 32-year-old acknowledged the choice in the video that Santos shared on all networks, even though the formal announcement was made on Friday.
“I’ll sign the Santos Futebol Club deal. I want to express my gratitude to my global fan base, hoping that this moment will last for a very long time.
“It seems like yesterday when I left the most well-known Vila in the world, even though it has been over 12 years. I still feel the same way for the team and its supporters. In the video, Neymar said, “I need to play (football) again now, and only a club like Santos can give me the love I need to prepare for the coming challenges of the next years.”
Neymar scored an incredible 136 goals and contributed 64 assists in 225 games during his first tenure with the team. In 2011, he assisted the Brazilian team in winning their first Copa Libertadores championship in over half a century.
The 32-year-old joined Al-Hilal in August 2023 for a reputed sum of around 90 million euros ($98 million), after memorable periods at Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.
He only made seven appearances with the Saudi-based team, however, after suffering a knee injury during Brazil’s October 2023 World Cup qualifying match against Uruguay.
The Brazilian subsequently took to social media to thank Al-Hilal supporters for their support after Al-Hilal stated on Friday that they had decided to amicably part ways with Neymar amid intense rumors.
