The iconic show was halted after commencing, just moments before Barney Walsh announced some "record-breaking" news.
BBC audiences were thrilled as the much-loved "Gladiators" made its Saturday night comeback (February 1), with the dynamic duo, Bradley and Barney Walsh, steering the ship once more.
In this latest episode, fresh contenders squared off against the near-mythical Gladiators in an epic showcase of might and resilience.
Disrupting the first face-off of the evening was a quirky interruption during The Ring challenge, featuring Mustapha and Lewis pitted against Phantom and Steel. Competitors aimed to touch the ring repetitively while evading the formidable Gladiators' attempts to wrestle them to the ground.
Yet, viewers were met with an unscripted twist- play paused unexpectedly as the referee intervened to help Gladiator Steel secure his untied shoelace, following which the contest resumed.
Adding to the night's excitement, Barney stepped up with extraordinary news that set the stage abuzz. Greeting challenger Amanda amidst vigorous audience applause, Barney exclaimed, "Wow. I have to address this. It sounds like you've got some fans here tonight.", reports The Mirror.
To which Amanda proudly responded: "Just a few 160 of them," Barney, taken aback, responded teasingly, "How much? ! " With jubilant confidence, Amanda rallied her supporters, "160, let me hear you! " Leaving Barney astounded, he declared, "This is definitely a Gladiators record, having this many people in! ".
In more exhilarating news from the world of Gladiators, the BBC triumphantly throws down the gauntlet for a third series renewal, as reported by The Sun. According to an insider, the current season's success has made it a "no brainer" for executives to green-light another round.
The source exclaimed: "It will be a huge thrill to the ever-growing army of fans of the family-friendly show."
Gladiators continues on Saturday on BBC One.
