Man Utd back in for Premier League star Leon Bailey eight years after scouting mission

Manchester United's search for a new forward has led them back to , it has been claimed.

United first looked at Bailey back in 2016, when the Jamaican was still in his teens. Jim Lawlor, the club's chief scout at the time, and saw him score as the Belgian side ran out 3-1 winners.

When Bailey left Genk in 2017, though, it wasn't for Old Trafford. He joined Bayer Leverkusen for around £17m, and spent more than four years with the Bundesliga club before eventually getting a opportunity at .

Now 27, the Kingston-born winger could finally get that United move. However, he's not the only attacking prospect being eyed up by Ruben Amorim's side.

Bailey is one of three attacking options being considered by United, according to . Christopher Nkunku is another, with the Frenchman looking for a move away from , while Ruben Amorim's side could also steal a march on Premier League rivals Arsenal and get a deal for Mathys Tel over the line, after he rejected .

United are understood to favour a loan for Tel, while Arsenal are keeping tab after Spurs eyed a permanent deal, but the former Rennes man could yet stay in Bavaria. “Mathys is extremely connected to the club," Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund told Sky Sport Deutschland. "He understands sometimes that I’m a different coach, that I’m demanding in my way, sometimes it’s hard the first impact," Amorim told reporters. "It’s a different kind of coach and he understands that it’s never in a bad way, it’s always for him, but I’m a different person. I think all the merit is from Garnacho and he is improving, and we want to continue to improve with Garnacho."
