For years A.R. Rahman has been Indias most prominent and highest-paid music composer. However in 2013 a young talent rose to take his place as Indias highest-paid musician earning nine figures for a single project. Yes! and all of this at just 33 years old.
We are talking about Anirudh Ravichander the popular music composer known for his work in films like Jailer Petta Master and Vikram. He has become Indias highest-paid music composer and musician. In 2023 Anirudh made his Bollywood debut by composing for Shah Rukh Khans Jawan. According to a report by News 18 he charged Rs 10 crore for the film beating AR Rahmans usual fees of Rs 7-8 crore per film.
However Anirudh reduced his fees for his subsequent projects like Leo and Jailer charging Rs 8 crore each. Yet still he holds the title of Indias highest-paid composer.
Other Indian music composers such as Pritam Vishal Shekhar typically charge under Rs 5 crore per film. Singers on the other hand earn comparatively less charging Rs 15-20 lakh per song and its rare for their total fees to reach a crore for an entire film. However for private albums singers like Diljit Dosanjh earn over a crore.
How Anirudh Ravichander beats other star musicians?
Anirudh has played a prominent role in introducing a fresh sound to Tamil music. The Kolaveri Di music composer is known for experimenting with techno music and incorporating actors real-life personas into background scores. He has worked with some of the biggest stars including Rajinikanth (in Petta and Jailer) Kamal Haasan (in Vikram) Vijay (in Master and Leo) and Shah Rukh Khan (in Jawan)
Anirudh Ravichander has become a go-to-composer for stars like SRK Rajinikanth and Vijay. The success of his music has enabled him to increase his fees eventually charging Rs 10 crore for a film at just 33 years old.
