Shah Rukh Khan is not just known for his exceptional acting skills but also for the way he speaks with wisdom and humility. In several interviews he has spoken fondly about his parents especially his father Mir Taj Mohammad Khan. Once on Anupam Kher’s show SRK shared an interesting story about his father’s life and why he considered him the most successful failure. Why Did Shah Rukh Call His Father the “Most Successful Failure”? During the interview Anupam Kher asked Shah Rukh about a statement he had made about his father. Explaining his words SRK said that his father was initially a lawyer but chose not to practice because he felt it wasn’t the right fit for him. He was also a freedom fighter and one of the youngest in the country. He even went to jail at the age of 14 or 15. At one point he contested an election against Maulana Abul Kalam Azad but lost. After that he ventured into several businesses but none of them succeeded. He tried his hand at a large-scale business which failed. Then he attempted a furniture business which also didn’t work out. Later he started a transport business but that too collapsed. He even opened a restaurant which eventually shut down. Finally as a freedom fighter he was given a small space behind a hospital where he set up a tea stall. Despite being an MA LLB graduate and a highly educated man he never took advantage of his freedom fighter status or entered politics. Instead he remained honest and hardworking till his last days running a small mess at the National School of Drama (NSD). SRK said My father was the most successful failure in the world and Im very proud of him. Mir Taj Mohammad Khan passed away in 1981 due to cancer. His wife Fatima Khan passed away in 1991 just before Shah Rukh Khan entered Bollywood. Though his father did not achieve material success his values and principles shaped SRK into the man he is today.
