The story of Ashok Sundari is told in Padmapuran, in which he is described as the wife of King Nahusha. Ashok Sundari has 6 sons and 100 daughters. There is a story about the birth of Ashok Sundari that once Lord Shiva took her to Nandanvan to show her the most beautiful garden in the world on the insistence of Goddess Parvati. Mother Parvati saw Kalpavriksha and she felt attached to that tree. . Kalpavriksha is a tree that fulfills the desire, Parvati asked the tree to remove her loneliness, that she should get a girl. Then, Ashok Sundari was composed by a tree called Kalpavriksha. Ashoka means happiness, she was born only to make Goddess Parvati happy and she was very beautiful, that is why she was called beauty. Mother Parvati gave a boon to the girl that she would be married to a powerful young man as Devraj Indra.

Ashok Sundari's marriage
According to the legend, once Ashok Sundari was wandering in Nandanvan with her maidens. Then there came a demon named Hund, who was fascinated by seeing Ashok Sundari. He proposed marriage but Ashok Sundari refused her about the blessings of her mother Parvati and said that her marriage is already fixed to Nahush, which will be in future. When the demon knew this, he said that he would kill Nahush. Then Ashok Sundari cursed the demon that he would die at the hands of not. The demon kidnapped Nahusha but only a maid of Hund saved Nahus. Maharishi Vasistha's ashram did not grow up and went ahead and killed Hund. In the future, Nahush and Ashok Sundari got married and became the mother of a brave son like Yayati and a hundred Roopwati girls. In the absence of Indra, Nahush was made Indra as a wonderful manner. Due to his arrogance, he collapsed with a curse. The place of Ashok Sundari in Shivling is believed that worshiping Goddess Ashok Sundari relieves a person from financial troubles and problems to business. Ashok Sundari also sits in Shivling. When water or milk is offered on the Shivling, it is called the path of Shivalinga as a stream, the same place is called Goddess Ashok Sundari. Therefore, it is said that whenever Shivling is worshiped, it is also mandatory to worship Goddess Ashok Sundari.
