Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt has quashed any rumours about Andy Reid's future, affirming that the esteemed head coach will be back for the 2025 season, irrespective of Super Bowl LIX's result. In a media briefing on Monday night, Hunt emphasised that Reid has no intention of retiring from coaching in the near future.
Responding to queries about Reid's status for the upcoming season, Hunt confidently stated: "I know for a fact he'll be back next season."
"I know how much fun Andy is having. In a lot of ways, I think he is rejuvenated by the success that the team has had, and he's certainly gotten a quarterback that's the perfect compliment. He loves what he is doing.
"We'll visit that when we get there." Hunt added that he doesn't envision Reid parting ways with the organisation "for a long time."
Reid's contract with the Chiefs extends until the 2029 season. When probed about retirement earlier this year, Reid echoed Hunt's sentiments about his passion for his job.
Speaking to The Athletic, he said: "This is a great place to coach, and I've got good players. I'll be 71 at the end of this contract, and that seems really old. I don't really know. We'll see where it all goes."
Since taking charge in 2013, Reid has been pivotal in cementing his status as one of the NFL's coaching elite. Boasting 273 career victories, he is hot on the heels to eclipse Bill Belichick's 302 wins and eyeing Don Shula's all-time high of 328.
Under Reid's expert guidance, Kansas City Chiefs have emerged as the epitome of NFL excellence, consistently in the hunt for titles with star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, a roster of skilled receivers, and a defence that ramps up as the season unfolds. Reflecting on Reid's role, Mahomes highlighted his influence during a media session before the Super Bowl: "I think it all starts with Coach Reid," Mahomes asserted.
"The culture that he's built, we know that its a day-by-day process. It's almost to be in the Super Bowl, but we have to put in the work every day first."
As they prepare for Super Bowl LIX against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Chiefs are favoured by -1.5 points for the victory. With preseason expectations favouring them for the Lombardi Trophy, they've sustained this trend for nine out of the past twelve seasons.
Uniquely, Reid stands as the lone NFL coach to notch up a century of wins with two different teams, ironically with his upcoming Super Bowl opposition being his other centurion team. In Philadelphia, Reid chalked up 224 of his career wins, punctuated by an NFC Championship win in 2004.
