Ryanair has confirmed that all flights to a European city are being cancelled.
The budget airline has scrapped all flights to and from after Denmark announced new aviation taxes. The new tax, which is 50DKK (£5.57), will apply to all passengers departing from Denmark and will be paid for by airlines. This means that from next month all flights to Aalborg from London Stansted will be cancelled.
At present Brits can fly to the destination for £14.99 with Ryanair, however, when the route stops there will be no other direct flights from the UK.
Ryanair has since announced that they will also be closing its base at Billund airport, in which has two aircraft. Whilst this means there will be no Ryanair flights to the city, there will still be a British Airways service. However, the prices for these are anticipated to increase, due to the fall in supply. This will be a blow for Lego fans hoping to visit the Legoland in the city.

The cancellations will see a total of 32 routes scrapped, with 1.7 million fewer seats.
A Ryanair spokesperson said: "We are very disappointed to announce the closure of our two aircraftbase and our operations at Aalborg from the end of March, but we have been left with no other choice following the Danish Govt’s short-sighted decision to introduce a harmful aviation tax from Jan 2025."
For British travellers wishing to head to Aalborg, they will now need to fly to Amsterdam or and change flights, with the cheapest flight being around £81 each way. Ryanair has also confirmed tat their Bournemouth to Agadir route has been cancelled, having only launched the rout to the Moroccan city back in April 2024.
The Irish airline has criticised the new Air Passenger Duty fees that will be introduced from April 2026, which will see a 15 per cent rise on most flights.
However, the airline has confirmed five new routes are launching from London Stansted airport. The new routes include flights to Reggio Calabria in Italy, which have already launched along with Linz inFlights to Clermont-Ferrand in France, and Munster in Germany, will launch on March 30 2025. Finally, from April 1 2025, flights to Lubeck in Germany, will also commence from London Stansted Airport.
Recently, the airline has also slammed Spain's aviation sector and pulled routes from key regional airports, which meant removing around 800,000 passenger seats in 2025 over "excessive fees". Officials have snapped back saying that the move by the airline was "blackmail", however Ryanair then called on the country's airport operator, AENA, to sell off some of its underperforming regional hubs.
The budget airline dominates aviation sector. Recently, the airline gave the Minister of Transport a dilemma, saying in a statement: "Minister Puente has two options: he can continue to support AENA’s failed regional airports policy or he can demand a growth plan from AENA that will attract airlines. If AENA fails to grow regional airports, it should be forced to divest itself of regional airports that are currently suffering the consequences of its inaction."
