Gurugram Metro Expansion Update: The construction of the Gurugram Metro, a major urban transport project, is most likely to commence on May 1, 2025, as announced by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. This project will span 28.5 kilometers and feature 27 elevated stations, connecting key areas such as Millennium City Centre, Old Gurugram, and Cyber City. 

The estimated cost for this is ₹5,452.72 crore, with funding contributions of ₹896.19 crore from the central government and ₹4,556.53 crore from the Haryana government. The metro line aims to enhance connectivity and is expected to serve approximately 540,000 passengers daily, with projections suggesting an increase to 726,000 by 2031.

Before construction begins on the Old Gurugram Metro, the width of the route needs to be increased. Habitat Tectonics Architecture and Urbanism Private Limited has suggested this to Gurugram Metro Rail Limited and Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation. The survey report shared by Gurugram Metro Rail Limited highlights that various organisations, including GMDA, NHAI, PWD B&R, and HSIIDC, will work on widening specific sections of the route.

The report indicates that 80.19 km of GMDA, 17.07 km of HSIIDC, 23.34 km of NHAI, 11.57 km of PWD B&R, and 182.27 km of Gurugram Municipal Corporation will be widened. Also, a new 16.69 km route will be constructed to connect with the eco-trail, and a 3.40 km road will also be widened.
