Sensational singer Sonu Nigam recently suffered a health issue at his concert in Pune few days earlier. Taking to his official Instagram handle, he shared a video pertaining to his health update after dealing with excruciating pain. The video shows the singer in pain, being escorted by his team and lying on the bed. It is suspected to be a body spasm.
Concerts are not just about the singer coming in, singing and going away. A good performer creates an enjoyable aura where the person not just sings but taps to the beats of his band too, much like the ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’ singer. In the video shared by him, he said how the dance moves during live performances may trigger sudden spasms leading to miserable pain.
“One of the most difficult days of my life but very fulfilling. I was thinking gaate gaate jhatka dete hai na (While singing we dance), that can also trigger the spasm. But I managed somehow. I never want to do less or give less when people expect so much from me. Ho gaya acha (It went well) I’m glad. This shaped up fine,” the 51-year-old said.
What is a muscle spasm?
A muscle spasm or a muscle cramp is an involuntary contraction of muscle that is uncontrollable and one is unable to relax. It is a common health issue and one may get a spasm anywhere in the body. The severity of the pains may differ causing certain stiffness and uneasiness. It can happen in arms, legs, back, neck, calf etc. It can happen to anyone at anytime be it walking, dacing, sitting. It occurs with sudden sense of pain, numbness. Poor posture, over exertion, obesity, old age may be certain risk factors. Dehydration, stress, electrolyte imbalance, lack of stretching, high intensity physical activity can also cause a spasm.
Applying hot or cold pack on the affected area, stretching may help in alleviating the pain. While these are mostly noon-serious, in case of prolonged and recurrent spasms, one must get checked to rule out any neurological issue.
