"If you’re passionate about engineering excellence, product reliability, and driving business growth, join us to help shape the future of electronics manufacturing in North America," showed a LinkedIn post by the contract manufacturing arm of the Tata Group.

Among the most sought after positions, the electronics manufacturing services (EMS) company is scouting for Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) sales directors. It is looking for such professionals in locations like Fremont, Hayward, San Mateo, Alameda, San Jose, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara and San Francisco Bay Area, underscoring its aggressive plans to onboard new clients for its upcoming OSAT facility in Assam.

"Lead business development efforts to acquire new customers for our OSAT services," the company said in the job description for this role. "Generate new leads and guide them through various business development stages, including nondisclosure agreement (NDA), promotion, follow-up deep dives, request for quote (RFQ)/quotation, and contracting, culminating in a design award.”

Tata Electronics is also looking to hire staff hardware electronics engineers in EMS, customer engineering managers for semiconductor supply chain and test/EV automotive electronics as well as hardware enterprise program managers in Mobile Electronics/EMS. All these positions are for various locations across California.

"Serve as the primary technical point of contact for a major global customer based in the SF Bay Area," states the job description for one of the positions. "Drive and track all programs for the customer, ensuring seamless execution and business growth. Meet with the customer daily to assess and address their needs related to our business and project execution."

Queries sent to Tata Electronics remained unanswered as of press time Tuesday.

Experts said the hiring plans reflect the company’s strategy to get closer to clients in an effort to win new business. Tata Electronics already has a large client in Cupertino, California-based Apple, and is looking to leverage its experience with Apple to serve other American giants.

"Being a company that can service Apple is a badge of honour that Tata Electronics is going to strongly use to their advantage," a person in the know told ET. "As they look to become a force to reckon with in the EMS space, their move to have feet on the street in the US will bode well to onboard other clients not just for their EMS play but also their fab and OSAT facility as well."

Tata Electronics has also been luring key professionals from other companies. ET reported last week it onboarded Reda Masarwa, global construction vice president at Intel as its senior vice president for construction and facility. It also appointed other seasoned Intel professionals like Bhavna Madhwal and Scott Holden from Arizona to spearhead senior executive hiring initiatives in the US.

The company itself is on a rapid growth trajectory. Last month, it announced the purchase of a controlling 60% stake in Pegatron Technology India. The acquisition comes less than a year after Tata Electronics acquired Wistron’s India operations in Narasapura, Karnataka in March 2024.

Further, Tata Electronics is looking to move beyond Apple, replicating the model of Taiwan’s Foxconn wherein it is considering EMS work for other smartphone makers like Xiaomi and Oppo besides entering new product categories.

ET reported in December that Tata Electronics was in talks with companies like Microsoft, Dell, and HP to add them as clients in a bid to foray into the laptop and personal computer space. All three are headquartered in the US.
