Carlos Alcaraz has conceded that Jannik Sinner is currently on another level than him and every other player on the ATP Tour after lifting his third Grand Slam at the 2025 Australian Open. Sinner added a second AO title to last year's US Open success to continue his reign of dominance as the world No. 1.

Alcaraz was vying to set up a dream final between the two in Melbourne but fell short against Novak Djokovic, who withdrew from his semi-final against Alexander Zverev through injury.

Sinner has set himself for another year of glory after finishing 2024 without a single straight-set defeat, becoming the second male player to do so in the Open Era since Roger Federer in 2005.

And Alcaraz admits there's currently no touching the Italian superstar on the court, hailing his consistent performances in tournaments.

"Jannik is the best right now. He has lost only four or five matches in the past year, so it is crazy," Alcaraz explained ahead of his maiden ABN AMRO Open campaign in Rotterdam.

"I know people say who's better out of us. They say Jannik is better, or some say me. It is all discussion. But for me, I think for a tennis player, we have to face Jannik and he is winning everything he is playing.

"He is focused every time, so I think he is the best. Every tournament he plays, he makes the final or lifts the trophy."

Alcaraz has revealed he spent time at home in Spain after his Australian Open defeat to Djokovic before flying out to the Netherlands on Friday.

The 21-year-old admits his preparation for the event hasn't been ideal due to illness but he appreciated the mental benefits that came with returning to his family.

He said: "I spent a few days at home after Australia, but I got a cold. I was struggling a little bit at home. I could only train for two days, and then I had to rest until the cold got better.

"But spending time at home, it doesn't matter if you are sick, it is always great, having your family there. It allows you to be fresh mentally, to travel again."

In Tuesday's first-round match in Rotterdam, Alcaraz earned vengeance against Botic van de Zandschulp.

The Dutch wildcard caused a shock upset by defeating Alcaraz in last year's US Open second round.

However, he couldn't replicate his feat this time around as the No. 1 seed clinched a 7-6 3-6 6-1 triumph.

Alcaraz will face the winner of qualifier Andrea Vavassori vs Felix Auger-Aliassime in the last 16 on Thursday.
