South Indian veteran actress Pushpalatha was one of the well-known actresses in the industry. Over the decades she featured in several movies that deeply resonated with audiences. Now in deeply saddening news the actress took her last breath on February 5 2025. The veteran actress passed away at the age of 87 after a prolonged illness. As we remember the actress lets take a look at her remarkable achievements and lasting impact. Pushpalatha a native of Mettupalayam in Coimbatore was born into a devout Catholic family with eight siblings. The veteran actress came from a humble background. Her father used to sell silver and brass to earn a living. On the other hand Pushpalatha developed a keen interest in the arts. When she was nine she began training in Bharatanatyam. Later her heart inclined towards acting. She started with a cameo in Nalla Thangai directed by S. A. Natarajan. Pushpalatha achieved her first major success in 1962 with Konga Nattu Thangam. Around the same time she appeared in several films including Sarada (as Uma) Sengamala Theevu Policekaran Magal (as Mallika) and Aalayamani (as Parvathi). In 1963 she continued her cinematic journey with roles in several notable films. Pushpalatha also delivered outstanding performances in films like Naanum Oru Penn and Yarukku Sontham. By the 1960s she had firmly established herself in the industry with roles in Pachai Vilakku Aandavan Kattalai and Ramu. Throughout her career she frequently collaborated with legendary actors like MGR Sivaji Ganesan Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan making a significant mark on the South Indian film industry. Coming to Pushpalathas personal life she fell in love with actor and producer AVM Rajan during the shooting of Naanum Oru Penn. Later the two tied the knot and were blessed with two daughters including Tamil actress Mahalakshmi.
