Ukraine launched a new drone attack on Russia, targeting a major oil depot in the southern Krasnodar region.

Kyiv has stepped up its aerial attacks across Russian regions over the winter, as it seeks to disrupt fuel and ammunition supply lines to Putin's army in Ukraine.

The aerial bombardments have sown panic and chaos deep inside Russia, causing major fires and destruction.

In the latest attack, drones zeroed in on an oil depot belonging to the Albashneft company at around 6.15am Moscow time.

Video images posted to social media channels show the depot engulfed by flames, as a raging inferno burns out of control.

Emergency services rushed to the depot, where 55 firefighters struggled for over two hours to extinguish the blaze.

In a post to his Telegram Channel, the region's governor Veniamin Kondratyev said: "Our military repelled an unmanned attack by the Kyiv authorities.

"In the village of Novominskaya, Kanevsky district, fragments of a UAV fell on a tank with minor remains of oil products.

"A fire started, it was assigned the second rank of complexity. Special services are working at the scene of the incident."

Ukraine's General Staff confirmed its forces were behind the attack, as it said on its Telegram channel: "Units of the Security Service of Ukraine, in cooperation with the Armed Forces and other components of the Defense Forces, on the night of February 5, 2025 hit LLC Albashneft in Krasnodar region of Russia.

"This plant for primary oil processing and production of petroleum products is positioned as a 'mini-refinery' and is involved in the supply of gasoline and diesel for the Russian occupation army. The hit has been confirmed. A fire broke out at the facility."

Russia's Ministry of Defence did not report any drones shot down over the Krasnodar region.

According to the ministry, UAVS were destroyed only in the Kursk and the Belgorod regions.

Russian oil and fuel depots were attacked at least 81 times in 2024, the BBC Russian Service reported.

However, this figure does not include attacks on oil refineries in occupied parts of Ukraine, including in annexed Crimea.

In addition, journalists only counted attacks that were confirmed by at least two independent sources.

The constant attacks have had a major impact on Russia's crude refining output, driving it to a 12-year low.

Refineries across the country have been forced to shut down for repairs following each successful strike.

Reuters has calculated that a combination of drone attacks and sanctions has resulted in 41.1 million tonnes of refinery capacity becoming idle - more than 12% of 's total.
