Ajith Kumar ’s upcoming film ' Good Bad Ugly ,' directed by Adhik Ravichandran , is expected to set a new trend in Kollywood . Traditionally, Tamil cinema icons like Ajith, Vijay, Rajinikanth, and Kamal Haasan have enjoyed massive first-day revenue through early morning shows. However, after a tragic incident during the release of ' Thunivu ' and ' Varisu in 2023', where an Ajith fan lost his life during celebrations, early morning shows were banned in Tamil Nadu. This ban significantly impacted the box office collections of star-studded films. As a solution, Kollywood is now planning to introduce night premieres a day before the official release. This strategy aims to boost opening-day collections and rekindle audience excitement.
Ajith Kumar is set to lead this trend with 'Good Bad Ugly,' which is slated for release on April 10. The film's premiere show is planned for the night of April 9, making him the pioneer of this new practice. Following this, other leading actors are also likely to adopt this strategy. Trisha plays the female lead, with Sunil, Prasanna, and Arjun Das playing crucial roles. GV Prakash Kumar is scoring the music to reunite with Ajith after a long time.
It is worth noting that this isn’t the first time Tamil cinema has experimented with premieres. In 2011, Suriya's '7aum Arivu' had a premiere show but failed to earn the expected response. However, with the growing popularity of premieres in other language industries, Tamil cinema is now reconsidering the trend. The industry is keen to see how audiences in Tamil Nadu will respond to night premieres. If successful, this could become a standard practice, offering a fresh approach to film releases in Kollywood.
Meanwhile, Ajith's next release, 'Vidaamuyarchi,' is slated for a grand theatrical release on Feb 6, and the film is releasing parallely in Tamil and Telugu.
