Surat: Authorities claimed on Wednesday that a two-year-old kid in Gujarat‘s Surat slipped into a manhole after its cover was “damaged by a heavy vehicle.” The event took place in the district’s Variav village.

Following notification, a group of firefighters arrived on the scene and began a search and rescue effort.

“A large truck destroyed the manhole chamber’s cover. A kid, two years old, has fallen into it. A 100–150 m radius has been examined,” Chief Fire Officer Basant Parikh told the media report.

“A search operation is underway to spot the child… 60-70 workers are deployed here,” he said.

He said that saving the youngster would need time.
