A 4-year-old boy died after colliding with a drum in the sad event that happened in Bhidihari hamlet, which is in the Southern Mansingha Panchayat of Sugouli block, Motihari. The event happened in Ward No. 5 of the village during the Saraswati Puja parade while villagers were submerging the idol close to a river.
The illegal liquor-making drum was situated close to the riverbed. The youngster, identified as Morelal Sahni, son of Horilal Sahni, perished after falling into the drum during the parade. The boy was immediately pronounced dead when his corpse was discovered at the site.
A huge throng gathered as the community descended into panic when the child’s corpse was found in the drum. People started to protest as things turned heated.
When the police came on the site, they were able to quiet the mob under the direction of Station Head Amit Kumar Singh. An inquiry into the occurrence was started, and the body was placed under arrest.
To look into the situation, the police have assembled a team led by the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). An appropriate case will be launched against the liquor merchant and suitable action will be taken if the inquiry finds any misconduct. The SP has also said that the culpable authorities in the incident would be subject to severe punishment.
In a different occurrence earlier, an 18-year-old girl died after falling down a borewell that was 540 feet deep in Gujarat’s Kutch region. After a 33-hour rescue effort, she was removed and pronounced dead.
The borewell was one foot in diameter, according to authorities, and the fact that she was an adult and trapped deep down made rescue operations challenging.
