OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman said billionaire Elon Musk's vicious attacks on him have continued but it is good to have him as a supporter of the Stargate project.
In an exclusive chat with ET, Altman said, "We were thrilled to announce Stargate with President Trump on his first full day in office, and I think it's great that he's such a supporter of the project."
Musk and Altman have been at odds over the direction the ChatGPT maker has taken. Musk was a cofounder of OpenAI, formed as a not-for-profit research organisation in 2015. After he left OpenAI's board in 2018, Musk alleged that the organisation had betrayed its charitable mission and acted anticompetitively. Musk also claimed that OpenAI's plans to transform into a for-profit company would harm the public interest.
Another dispute which has risen is the Stargate project, a $500 billion AI infrastructure initiative announced by US President Donald Trump. Musk questioned the funding for the project, claiming that the money isn't available. However, Altman has pushed back.
"Wrong, as you surely know. want to come visit the first site already under way? this is great for the country. i realize what is great for the country isn't always what's optimal for your companies, but in your new role i hope you'll mostly put US first," Altman said in a post. However, he added, "i genuinely respect your accomplishments and think you are the most inspiring entrepreneur of our time."
