After the approval of the 8th Pay Commission, government employees may soon get another good news. An increase in their Dearness Allowance (DA) may be announced soon. Both government employees and pensioners will get the benefit of this. Let us know how DA i.e. dearness allowance is calculated and by when it can be announced.

How is DA calculated?

Currently, government employees get a salary under the 7th Pay Commission. Under this, DA is calculated on the basis of AICPI (All India Consumer Price Index). This time the data of AICPI index from July to December 2024 will decide how much the government will increase the dearness allowance. This data shows that the government can increase DA by 3 percent.

When will the increase in DA be announced?

Government employees and pensioners are getting 53 percent dearness allowance from July 2024. If we look at the trend of previous years, the government announces DA hike in March before Holi. If the March DA hike is announced, it will be considered effective from January 1, 2025. This means that government employees and pensioners will get 2 months' DA with arrears.

How much will the salary be?

How much the increase in the salary of government employees will depend on their current salary. The government can increase DA from 53 percent to 56 percent. This means that 3 percent more will be added to the dearness allowance of the employees. For example, if an employee is currently getting a dearness allowance of Rs 15,000 per month, it will increase to Rs 15,450. That is, they will get more at the rate of Rs 450 per month.

When will the money for the DA hike come?

Under the 7th Pay Commission, DA is revised twice a year. First time in January and second time in July. This revision is based on the average of the AICPI index. The government can give a festive gift to government employees and pensioners by releasing it before Holi. However, if the DA hike is announced in March, then the money may come with the salary for March or April.
