Keep automatic media file downloading off on WhatsApp. By doing this, the images, videos and documents coming on your WhatsApp chat will not be saved directly to the device.
To turn off automatic media file download, first go to the Settings menu. After this you have to go to Storage and data and Media auto-download. Go here and set the setting to Never.
Check device login
