In a shocking incident, a nurse at a government hospital in Karnataka used Fevikwik adhesive instead of stitching the wound of a 7-year-old boy. She has been suspended now.

The incident occurred on January 14 at the Adoor Primary Health Centre in Hanagal taluk, Haveri district.

The boy, Gurukishan Annappa Hosamani, had fallen while playing and was bleeding heavily from a deep wound on his cheek. His parents rushed him to the health centre.

The parents recorded a video of the nurse who shrugged off their concern by saying she had been doing this for years and adhesive was better as stitches would leave a permanent scar on the child's face.

Later they lodged an official complaint with the health protection committee.

In a statement, the Commissioner's Office of Health and Family Welfare Services said, “Fevikwik is an adhesive solution not permitted for medical use under regulations. In this case, the staff nurse responsible for dereliction of duty by using Fevikwik for the child's treatment has been suspended following a preliminary report and pending further investigation as per rules.”

“The child is reported to be in good health, and directions have been issued to health authorities concerned to monitor for any adverse effects,” added the press release.
