Following the shocking news of Hsu’s death from influenza- pneumonia on Feb. 2, fans have been sharing photos from the university, expressing their grief and bidding farewell to the beloved actress.
A Filipino tourist, who goes by the account name Mrs.lei.mendoza, posted a photo taken at the university, writing: “As a child of the ’90s, I was one of the fans of Meteor Garden. Goodbye, our Shancai.”
Hsu was best known for her role as the spirited Shancai in the idol drama that catapulted her to fame and solidified her career in the entertainment industry.
Another fan, Michael Villamor, a TikTok user with 43,000 followers, shared a video revisiting multiple filming locations from the series including the iniversity.

“I’m a big fan of ‘Meteor Garden.’ We just got there. So nostalgic. Thank you for being a part of my childhood dream. Goodbye, Shancai,” he wrote.
National Chung Cheng University, founded in 1989, was among the first public universities established after Taiwan’s economic boom. The campus is known for its spacious layout, featuring palm tree-lined roads, long corridors, water tanks, cafés, restaurants, stores, bicycle lanes, and wide walkways.
After being featured in the drama, the university became a popular tourist attraction.
Currently, visitors can book a Meteor Garden tour from Taipei through travel platforms such as Klook and KKday, with a reference price of approximately US$60. The tour includes a shuttle bus from Taipei and visits to several other attractions.
