Due to rising electricity bills, many people are installing solar panels in their homes regardless of the weather. The Government of India provides subsidies on this under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana.

Minimum Solar Panel Capacity

A solar panel of one kilowatt or a minimum of 1 kW can be installed under this scheme.

Amount of Subsidy

1. The government provides subsidies to consumers based on the capacity of the solar panel installed.

2. Up to ₹30,000 for 1 kW system.

3. ₹60,000 for 2 kW installation.

4. For solar PV systems of 3 kW and above, a subsidy of ₹78,000 is applicable.

How to claim the benefits provided by PM Surya Ghar Yojana

1. To apply under Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana: Visit the official website: pmsuryaghar.gov.in.

2. On reaching the homepage, click on “Apply for Rooftop Solar”.

3. Complete the registration process by entering details such as your state, power distribution company, consumer number, mobile number and email address.

4. Once the registration is complete, log in with your consumer and mobile number.

5. Fill the rooftop solar application and submit the supporting documents.

6. Wait for approval from your electricity board.

7. Once your installation is approved, you can hire any authorized vendor for solar panel installation and apply for a net meter.

9. The electricity company will inspect your installation and provide you with a certificate.

Your subsidy will arrive within 30 days of doing so. Apart from the dignity of contributing to reducing electricity bills, this initiative will promote the revival of renewable energy in India.
