Choosing a that others can understand isn't as easy as it sounds.
When picking out the perfect name for your , choosing something that you love is the most important thing. Whether you like classic names or ones that are a little more unique, the decision is ultimately up to you. After all, you'll be the one using it for the rest of your life, and you want to make sure it's something you like saying.
You might also consider how easy it is to pronounce and spell so that other people who meet your child won't have a hard time. However, as one is finding out, some people seem to struggle no matter how straightforward someone's moniker is. Her daughter has a name that isn't too common but isn't completely made up, but strangers still can't say it correctly.
In a TikTok video, mum Lucy shared that people "can't seem to grasp" her daughter's name, and running into people who can't pronounce it or call it "strange" seems like a "daily occurrence" now. While she didn't reveal her daughter's name in this specific clip, she has shared in the past that her daughter is called Romie.
She said: "People just can't seem to grasp my daughter's name. We went to a kid's party yesterday and somebody got it so wrong. So so wrong. And I took her to a playroom for the first time today and they just didn't know [how to say it].
"It took them a while to work out what I was saying, and then when they finally got it, they were like 'Oh, that's a strange name'. Is it really that strange?"
In text added to the video, Lucy clarified the employee had called her daughter's name "unusual" rather than "strange". And to prove that the issues with her daughter's name happen all the time, the mum uploaded another video the next day in which she said she was at the hospital with her child and nurses referred to her as "Ronnie".
Commenters on the post shared similar stories they had about their own kids' names, stating that no matter how simple a name might be to pronounce, people will always get it wrong if it's not a super common moniker.
One person said: "My daughter is Rogue, and people haven't got it right for nine years. Even though it's a word that's used a lot." Another added: "My kid is called Sonny and people can't even get that right." While a third stated: "I find people's attempts at my son's name hilarious - when I handed out birthday party invites, people were so confused. It's Llewellyn."
