Vande Bharat Sleeper Train: Indian Railways is soon going to give a new dimension to long distance travel. The Vande Bharat Sleeper train set is set to join the country's fastest growing rail fleet. It will be a modern train equipped with high speed and world-class facilities, which will give passengers a comfortable and luxurious travel experience.
Successful trial of the first Vande Bharat Sleeper train
The country's first 16-coach Vande Bharat Sleeper train completed a successful trial run of 540 km on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad section on 15 January 2025. This train was designed by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai and its construction was completed on 17 December 2024.
In the first week, the train was brought to Kota division and a small scale trial was conducted for three days at a distance of 30-40 km. In this, the train traveled at a speed of 180 kmph and provided a comfortable travel experience to the passengers.
Waiting for this certificate
The final certification will be issued by the Research Designs and Standards Organization (RDSO) before this train is formally run. The Railway Safety Commissioner will check the train at maximum speed and only then will this train be available to general passengers.
What will happen next?
After the successful trial of the prototype, now 9 more Vande Bharat sleeper train sets will be produced between April and December 2025. After this, Indian Railways aims to start full production of 24-coach Vande Bharat sleeper train sets by 2026-27.
For this big project, the railways have ordered propulsion electrics for 50 racks, to which major Indian companies will contribute:
M/s Medha: Will supply 33 racks.
M/s Alstom: Will supply 17 racks.

The journey will be even faster and more comfortable.
The capacity of the train will be 1,128 passengers.
How will the experience of rail travel change?
Vande Bharat Sleeper Train will take the experience of rail travel in the country to a new height. Currently, 136 Vande Bharat trains are running in the country, which is used for medium and short-distance travel. But Vande Bharat Sleeper Train will become a new identity for long-distance travel.
