'Valentine Week', which fills lovers with new feelings of romance, has started on Friday with 'Rose Day'. In the name of this festival, cybercriminals and scammers are also looking for opportunities for themselves. In such a situation, the government and police have started a special campaign to alert people about 'romance scams'.
Indian Cyber Crime Co-ordination Center (I4C), an organization working under the Union Home Ministry, is making people aware on social media under the hashtag 'Romance Scam Prevention Week' parallel to 'Valentine Week'. Jharkhand Police is also sharing related posts on its official handle under this social media campaign.
I4C shared this post on social media
In an attractive poster shared on the official X account of 'I4C' on Friday, people have been asked, "What will you do if your online sweetheart asks you for money?" Along with this, it is written in the post, "In this romance season, do not get cheated in the name of love. Join Cyber Dost in Romance Scam Prevention Week and learn effective tips and measures to avoid scammers." People have been appealed that if they fall prey to cyber fraud in the name of romance, then immediately call 1930 or report on 'cybercrime.gov.in'.
Such a case has also come in Ranchi.
An officer of the Cyber Police Station in Ranchi said that many cases of cyber fraud have come in recent times while searching for love and relationships on the Internet. A few months ago, a girl from Ranchi liked the profile of a boy through a marriage site, then a conversation started with him, and mobile numbers were exchanged. There was talk of meeting in Ranchi, but in the meantime, the boy told a false story of being caught at Delhi airport and duped her of Rs. 7 lakhs. Even after getting the money, the fraud deleted his profile.
