In recent news, the makers of Football Manager have decided to cancel the 2025 release of the game after a lot of delays. Sports Interactive (SI) has announced that makers have now shifted their focus to FM26 instead of FM25. The FM26 will be released in November. An apology was issued to fans by SI, a subsidiary of the gaming company Sega after making the “difficult decision” to cancel the game because of multiple technical glitches.
According to a statement by SI, fans have been eagerly awaiting the first gameplay reveal, and this will come as a huge disappointment, especially given that the release date has already been moved twice.
According to the makers of the game, they have decided to make the "biggest technical and visual advancement" in the series specifically for this generation. However, that seems to be a tough task and has proved impossible.

The makers as cited by The Guardian said, “While many areas of the game have hit our targets, the overarching player experience and interface is not where we need it to be. We could have pressed on, released FM25 in its current state, and fixed things down the line – but that’s not the right thing to do."
They further added, "We were also unwilling to go beyond a March release as it would be too late in the football season to expect players to then buy another game later in the year.”
The most recent update was released just a few weeks before the game's postponed March 2025 release date. FM25 experienced two delays and a challenging development phase. Sports Interactive had a number of technical difficulties when attempting to transfer the complete game to the Unity engine.
Prior to being postponed to March 2025, the projected launch date was originally shifted from the customary early November time window to late November.
The studio further apologised to all its fans for the late communication about the game's cancellation. The studio opened up on the matter and revealed that the reason behind the delayed communication was stakeholder compliance, including legal and financial regulations, which meant February 6 was the date when they could have issued the statement.

If reports by UK-based studios are to be believed, then FM25's overarching player experience and interface were not up to a satisfactory level.
