The 80s were a wild time for cinema. Movies were audacious, songs were catchy and heroes were larger-than-life. For a while, it worked. Everyone enjoyed losing themselves in the world of over-the-top action, drama, romance. Over the years, however, cinema moved towards realism and the loud magic of the 80s was left behind.
Of all the candidates who could have revived the genre, it’s Lord Himesh aka Himesh Reshammiya, who decided to take us all on a trip down memory lane with Badass Ravi Kumar — a movie that’s an ode to the aura of 80s’ movies.

Flying cars, wacky costumes and even wackier dialogues — Badass Ravi Kumar has it all. And then some more.
As this movie finally finds a theatrical release after years of delay, it also brings along a memorable box office clash. Badass Ravi Kumar releases on the same day as Interstellar’s re-release. It’s also clashing with Loveyapa, which stars two nepo kids, Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor. On paper, the odds don’t look so good. How can a cringey movie win against Christopher Nolan and the kids of Bollywood’s most beloved superstars?
But somehow, it has happened.

Interstellar vs Badass Ravi Kumar has become every Indian Gen Z’s Barbenheimer. And, believe it or not, Lord Himesh is winning.
So far, hate watching or guilty pleasure-watching has been reserved for OTT platforms. It’s why shows like Indian Matchmaking or Too Hot To Handle are notoriously famous. With Badass Ravi Kumar, things are going up a notch. This movie is a classic example of ‘it’s so bad that it’s good’.
Despite horrendous dialogues and bad VFX, people are queuing up to watch Badass Ravi Kumar in theatres. It’s not for the promise of a good film. They just want to have a good time, even if that means spending money on a film that they are going to diss throughout its runtime.

Interstellar may have a brilliant story, star-studded cast and exceptional performances. But will it ever have seetimaar dialogues like, “Kundali me shani, ghee ke saath honey aur Ravi Kumar se dushmani, sehat ke liye haanikarak ho sakti hai”? I think not.
Badass Ravi Kumar has taken almost three years to reach a point where people went from trolling it to waiting for it eagerly. Amid the craze of hypermasculine movies like Jawan, Pathan and Animal, Badass Ravi Kumar offers yet another massy ‘chad’ guy who doesn’t take no for an answer and is always ready to hit back with an over-the-top dialogue that will make your heart laugh and ears bleed at the same time.
Here’s how social media has been abuzz with this Barbenheimer-like clash between Badass Ravi Kumar and Interstellar, while hailing Lord Himesh as the undisputed winner.

Have we really set the bar that low? Or are we just desperate for a good time?
