Friend says ex-husband Wang Xiaofei in severe mental distress after Barbie Hsu’s passing

A friend told QQ that Wang has suffered a relapse of his depression and bipolar disorder.

“Since hearing the news, he has been crying daily. Recently, he has repeatedly screamed that he wants to die. His family is extremely concerned. Wang’s mental state is alarming, so please stop criticizing him,” the source said.

The friend also dismissed social media rumors that Wang sought to claim Hsu’s assets or force their two children to live with him in Beijing, as reported by And Tri. According to 163a court hearing on the division of assets and child custody is scheduled for Feb. 27.

Following confirmation of Hsu’s passing at age 49 on Monday, Wang was accused of using her death to portray himself as a devoted former husband and potentially stake a claim to her assets.

On Thursday, Wang denied claims that he was exploiting Hsu’s death for attention. Speaking to Taiwanese media, he refuted reports of meeting her family on Feb. 5 and said he had stayed home due to health issues.

Regarding controversial social media posts linked to him, Wang asserted that the accounts were fake.

On Feb. 7, Wang’s mother, businesswoman Zhang Lan, rejecting accusations that she was leveraging Hsu’s passing for publicity. She also denied reports that she had arranged a private jet to transport Hsu’s ashes to Taiwan.

“People need to distinguish truth from lies. Do not vent your anger on my livestream. Our lawyers are handling the matter,” Zhang said.

Hsu gained fame through TV series such as Meteor Garden, Mars, and Summer’s Desire. Her personal life, particularly her marriages, had long drawn media attention.

She was married to Wang from 2011 until their divorce in 2021. They had two children together. After their split, Hsu reunited with her former boyfriend, South Korean musician DJ Koo, marrying him in February 2022. They remained together until her passing.

Wang later married Mandy in May 2024.
