During the Pragati Yatra, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is going to the districts and reviewing development schemes these days. In this series, the Chief Minister announced to open medical colleges and hospitals in Araria and Khagaria during Pragati Yatra. After which the cabinet has approved the amount for opening new medical colleges and hospitals in Araria and Khagaria. A scheme amount of Rs 4 billion 1 crore 78 lakh has been sanctioned for the construction of a government medical college and hospital in Araria.
It will play an important role in improving health services for the people of Government Medical College and Hospital Araria. Similarly, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had announced to build a medical college and hospital in Khagaria during the Pragati Yatra, the amount of its construction has also been approved by the cabinet. 4 billion 60 crore 56 lakh rupees will be spent on this. This medical college and hospital will be helpful in providing better health services to the people of Khagaria. Better facilities for treatment will be available to people in their district itself.
Earlier there were only name medical colleges in Bihar, due to which students of Bihar had to go out to study medical. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar started taking necessary steps to improve the health services of the state along with assuming power. The Chief Minister's objective has been from the beginning that students of Bihar do not have to go out under compulsion for engineering and medical studies. On this, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had announced to open engineering and medical colleges in all the districts of the state.
Along with opening new medical colleges in Bihar, Nitish government is also serious about increasing the capacity of the old medical college and hospital. Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), the oldest hospital in Bihar, is being made a capacity of 5400 beds. The remaining 5 old medical colleges and hospitals are also being expanded and a capacity of 2500 beds is being built.
IGIMS, Patna is also being expanded and it is being made a 3000 -bed capacity hospital. SKMCH Muzaffarpur is being developed as a 2500 -bed hospital. NMCH, Gaya and Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital are also expanding. Sadar hospitals are also being made hi -tech. Modern Hospitals are also being built in the districts. Along with this, all additional primary health centers (APHCs) are being developed as health and wellness centers. A 100-bed infant intensive medical unit (Piku) and 100-bed maternal ward have been inaugurated in Muzaffarpur. Bihar is the first state in the country, where a 100 -bed capacity Piku Hospital has started.
There has been a decline in infant mortality in Bihar. In the state, the infant mortality rate in 2005-06, where 60 was on one thousand births, has now come down to 27. In the year 2015, the death toll of infant per one thousand births was 42. In the year 2016, this figure came down to 38 and reached 35 in 2017. 32 in 2018, 29 in 2019 and 27 in the year 2020 to 27. In the year 2020, when the figure of infant death in Bihar reached 27, the national infant mortality rate was 28. In this way, Bihar also fell below the national average in terms of infant mortality. In Bihar, there has been a fall of 12 points in maternal mortality.
At one time there was no nurse training college in Bihar, due to which there was a lack of trend nurses in Bihar. In view of this, the government decided to open Nursing College and GNM College. Today, ANM and GNM colleges have been opened in many districts of Bihar. In the year 2006, the rate of vaccination in Bihar was only 18 percent. The result of the continuous efforts made under the efficient leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is that today this rate has increased to 86 percent. Now the next goal is to take Bihar to the top 5 states in terms of vaccination. Japanese encephalitis has been vaccinated in the districts of the state.
