Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Breast cancer cases doubled in the last 10 years with annual hike at the rate of 8-9 per cent in the country. Assistant Professor in the Department of Cancer Diseases of BMHRC, Dr Sonveer Singh Gautam informed this while addressing a programme on ‘Women's Health - A Holistic Approach’ at BMHRC (Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre).

He said, ‘Cases of breast cancer are increasing at the rate of 8-9% every year. While one-and-a-half lakh cases of breast cancer were reported in the year 2015, in 2025, number of women suffering from breast cancer has doubled. In our country, the percentage of breast cancer alone is 28% among all types of cancer. To prevent this, women can test it themselves at home after the age of 20. Especially after the age of 40, every woman must get a mammography test done every year.’

BMHRC in-charge director Dr Manisha Srivastava said that from next Monday, mammography of female staff of BMHRC will begin. Breast cancer is very common in women. Breast cancer should not be ignored. If there is a history of breast cancer in someone's family, then there can be a higher possibility of this cancer in them. Any kind of lump in breast may not be cancerous, so it must be tested.
