Worlds richest woman: We have been publishing about the rich and the famous and this time it is about Françoise Bettencourt Meyers the world’s richest woman for the fourth consecutive year as per Forbes. Françoise Bettencourt Meyers is the heiress to L’Oréal the French multinational personal care corporation and the worlds largest cosmetics company.
Françoise Meyers 71 had a bull run during the last year as her fortune jumped by a whopping $19 billion. the biggest gain by any woman entrepreneur on the 2024 list as her net worth reached $99.5 billion a bit shy of the $100 billion club.
Nevertheless Francoise Bettencourt Meyers has announced that she will retire from the company’s board later this year thus bringing an end to her 28-year tenure at the company founded by Eugène Schueller her grandfather on 30 July 1909 about 115 years ago.
The announcement about the retirement was made alongside L’Oreal’s annual financial results. Following Françoise Meyers’ retirement her son Jean-Victor Meyers will take over her role as vice-chairman of LOréal.
Françoise will be replaced on the board by Alexandre Benais who is the deputy CEO of Téthys Invest a subsidiary of Téthys set up by Françoise Meyers and Jean-Pierre Meyers in March 2016. Téthys Invest is the largest shareholder of LOréal and chaired by Francoise Meyers.
These changes were announced by the company on Thursday February 6.
The Bettencourt Meyers family owns a stake of about 35% in L’Oréal.
Francoise Bettencourt Meyers has been on the L’Oréal board of directors since 1997 a period of almost 28 years. She has been the vice chairwoman since 2020.
Jean-Victor and Nicolas Meyers Francoise’s two sons are also on the board of directors. She has authored two books a five-volume study of the Bible called “A Look at the Bible” and a genealogy of the Greek gods.
L’Oréal has $45 billion in revenue and marquee brands like Maybelline Kiehl’s and Lancôme. Francoise Bettencourt Meyers inherited her fortune from her mother Liliane Bettencourt who first appeared on Forbes’ billionaires list in 2018 with net worth of $42.2 billion.
